Big Frame in a neoprene hole
August was my month, so I thought I’d take Lorraine somewhere with a bit of risk involved. – Ocean kayaking.
Our friend, Brenda, called me and said, “I’ve got a great idea for your date night. Why don’t you take Lorraine kayaking? There’s a kayaking company in our area that takes folks out under a full moon.”
I thought, “Good God…well…okay.”
So Brenda took her husband Sean with us and surprised him as well. Kind of a double date, which was cool.
Don’t know how many of you have tried ocean kayaking, but I was pretty nervous stuffing my big frame into that little neoprene hole. We jumped into one of those double kayaks and after a brief safety session, we ventured out into the darkness, lit up only by the brilliance of the moon.
Oh, she was an angry sea that night. Well, not really. It was stunning. Paddling around Ladysmith harbour between islands and sail boats; it was an evening we’ll never forget.
Brenda’s husband Sean, who claims to be not competitive, was certain not to let us paddle faster than he could. Quite embarrassing really.
Great night, reasonably priced and a little bit of adventure. Very cool.
