Starting as The Christian Mission in the East End of London, England, in 1865, The Salvation Army has been running for 140 years. William Booth, one man, a Methodist minister, started the foundation with his philosophy that there is little point preaching 'salvation' to hungry people. And so the concept of 'soup and salvation' took hold and the rest is history.

Working in a Salvation Army Detox Centre, Lorraine had the opportunity to see first hand people suffering, homeless, sick and afraid. The work that the folks at the Salvation Army do is incredible and their motto: “Heart to God, Hand to man,” is very powerful and taken to heart by all that work there.

If one man, William Booth, could start a foundation like that, way back then, what we are proposing is easy.

At the Salvation Army Christmas kick-off luncheon a few weeks ago, we learned that the community in which we have a wonderful life, Nanaimo, BC, has the highest rate of poverty in the province of British Columbia. It’s time for all of us to step, wouldn’t you agree?

The Salvation Army’s mission statement is:
